New for 2018... An opportunity for more runners to get involved from age 6
Saturday 21st April 2018
starting at 2.00pm from Blackpool's Middle Walkway on North Promenade
The 2k event is open for all runners over the age of 6 on the day. Everyone is welcome, young and old, fast and slow. This is a great opportunity to get involved in the Blackpool Festival weekend.
Registration is open for you to collect your race pack on race morning from 9.00am.
Location The registration marquees are located on the Middle Walkway (adjacent to the main promenade road), opposite the Hilton Hotel. The postcode is FY1 2JQ. What you need When you come to collect your race pack we advise you bring with you a copy of your entry confirmation, either on paper, or on your phone. Don't worry if you don't, as long as you are on the confirmation list, everything will be fine. All the race packs are in alphabetical order. What is in the race pack In your envelope you will find your bib number and safety pins, to attach it securely to the front of your running top. The timing chip tags are already attached to your number, so do not remove, cover, fold or tear it.
All entries are subject to availability. Late entries may be taken if available. Please follow our facebook page for all the latest news on entry availability.
Click the 'route map' button for a detailed look at the route. Use the features of MapMyRun to zoom, rotate and see 3D views of the course.
RACE START The race start is adjacent to the registration area on the Middle Walkway, North Promenade, Blackpool. A start gantry is located at the exact start point. You can't miss it!
RACE DAY Arrive in plenty of time to allow you to park, collect your race pack (if not already done on Saturday), get changed and visit the toilet etc. Just before the start the toilets will become busy so plan your visit carefully. Please fill in the medical/contact information section on the back of your running number. Be careful not to damage or lose your number, as replacements can’t be issued. If there’s a risk you may blackout during the race (for example if you suffer from fits), put a red cross on the front of your number. Please pin your number on your FRONT without folding or covering it - it needs to be seen by the race marshals. Do not pass your running number onto somebody else without notifying registration first. This is to ensure the results are correct and for obvious safety and medical reasons. When you are happy that you are ready to run, make your way to the start area. The route to the start point is clearly marked. Line up behind the start line. There will be a few safety announcements and then the marathon and half marathon race will start at 2.00pm. The route you are running on is open to the public so be aware of some pedestrians and cyclists. The course is traffic free. We advise that you do not wear iPods or similar devices whilst running. You may not hear marshals or indeed fellow runners if they need help! At the finish you will be awarded with your runners medal. There is water available and also medics should they be needed.
TOILET FACILITIES Toilets are located at the registration area and are available to use for the duration of the event.
DROPPING OUT, SLOWER RUNNERS & WALKING If you have to drop out for any reason, and you cannot make your own way back to the race venue to collect your belongings, then please make your situation known to a course steward or a member of the medic crew. Arrangements will be made to pick you up and bring you back. Priority will be given to cases of injury or illness. If you are very slow, but are determined to finish, on-course facilities may become less available. Our team at the rear of the field will endeavour to give you support and advice. At some point, perhaps through tiredness, cramp, blisters, etc, you may be forced to walk. If this happens, move as far to the left hand side as possible to allow runners to overtake.
All 2k superstars receive a unique medal at the finish.
