runbritain’s mission statement is to make British road running the best in the world in terms of organisation, development and performance.
The people:
Geoff Wightman, Managing Director
Appointed as MD of runbritain in March 2010 having chaired the group in his capacity as CEO of scottishathletics for the previous two years. Programme Manager of Run England since April 2011. A former international marathon runner, he was a GB selector for the marathon from 1995-98, a solicitor, commercial agent and sports marketing manager for Puma (UK). He announces at a number of major road race finish lines and is a life member of Dartford Harriers.

Gavin Lightwood, Road Race Co-ordinator
Former national ranked 10k and marathon runner with Edinburgh AC. Venues Manager for the European Cross Country Championships in 2003 and IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 2008 and Competition Manager for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 2009. Course Director for the Edinburgh Marathon from 2003 - 2006 and Race Director for the Great Scottish Run and Ignis Asset Women's 10k in 2009 and 2010. Was appointed an IAAF International Cross and Road Official in 2009.

John Temperton, UKA
A Level 3 Endurance Official, he is a former distance runner with Airedale and Spen Valley Harriers, volunteer North of England Administrator and England Cross Country Team Manager. He is also a Competitions Manager for UKA.

Nigel Rowe (Technical Group)
An England Athletics Board Member and former Race Director of the Plymouth Half Marathon, he produced the Report on Licence Standards in 2010 which was the forerunner to the introduction of the new licensing process involving Regional Panels and Event Adjudicators. He is also the Editor of the runbritain Race Director’s Handbook.

Welsh Athletics Director of Development. Double Olympian at Marathon (1992 and 1996).

Dave Bedford, London Marathon (Commercial Group)
Former World Record Holder for 10,000m, European Record Holder at 5,000m and a former World Cross Country Champion. Former Race Director of the Virgin London Marathon.
Nick Bitel, London Marathon (Technical Group)
Chief Executive of the London Marathon and partner in sports law firm Max Bitel Greene LLP with clients including Ryder Cup and Wimbledon. A Board Member of the Olympic Park Legacy Company, London Community Sports Board and Events for London Steering Group.
Roland Gibbard (Technical Group)
Member of the British Association of Road Races (BARR) since 1989 and currently their Vice-Chairman and Chief Race Scrutineer. Organised the initial road race reviews for UK Athletics as a forerunner of the current race licensing system. Over 40 years experience of road running. Race Director of the Newton Solney 10km (1984/95). Former nationally ranked marathon runner. Life member of Charnwood AC. .

Martin Burke (Technical Group)
A Partner, alongside his wife Cathy, in a long established road race management company which manages over 60 UK races throughout the UK on behalf of running clubs, charities, local authorities and community groups.
Committed to the club network and a keen club runner when time allows, he is an enthusiastic 'back of the pack' participant in races in the UK and overseas, with a number of marathons to his credit.
Andrew Taylor (Technical Group)
Race Director of the Bath Half Marathon since 2000, he has 12 years experience organising road races and other sporting events in both the voluntary and commercial sector. He is responsible for developing policy in medical standards, highways & police, licence & grading standards and officials’ development.
John Skevington, Leicestershire Vision 2020 Athletics Network (Technical Group)
Has been involved in athletics all his life, first as a track runner in his teens and then from the "running boom" took to the roads in 1981. Has been a member of Wreake Runners in Leicestershire for almost 30 years and is involved in road running on many levels including being on the committee of the LRRL which is Britain’s biggest road is running league and also as an official and administrator. Sadly no longer a competing athlete, but still enjoys running. His role on the runbritain Council is to represent the interests of clubs, ensuring amongst other things that the small club races which are often the financial lifeblood of a club are well looked after.
